Basecamp Foundation Kenya (BCFK) is a not for profit trust that has been working in the Maasai Mara for the past fifteen years. Our aim is to transform lives by being an innovator of models for sustainable development, through tourism, entrepreneurship and conservation. Basecamp Foundation Kenya works among one of the marginalized communities in Kenya by implementing and partnering in projects in the areas of health, education, empowerment and entrepreneurship.
The Basecamp Foundation Kenya (BCFK) projects are implemented in Maasai Mara, particularly in the villages adjacent to the Naboisho Community Wildlife Conservancy within Narok West Sub-County, Narok County. Naboisho, which means “coming together” is one of the community-managed wildlife conservation areas that lie adjacent to the State run Maasai Mara National Reserve. It was initiated by the Maasai under the patronage of Basecamp Foundation, to create a wildlife conservation and tourism area that supports the livelihoods of the landowners and surrounding communities. The conservancy comprises over 500 landowners and covers over 200km2 that has one of the highest density of wildlife in the world.
