Empowering Communities
Basecamp Foundation Kenya (BCFK) is a non-profit organization that has been operating in the Maasai Mara, Narok West Sub County, Narok County, for the past sixteen years. Our mission is to transform lives by developing sustainable models through education, entrepreneurship, tourism and conservation.
BCFK focuses on the Maasai community, one of Kenya's marginalized groups, partnering with them to implement projects in education, health, empowerment, entrepreneurship, and climate action initiatives. Through our five core programs: Bonga, Community Managed Savings Groups (CMSGs), Mara Girls Leadership School (MGLS), Community Based Education Interventions (CBEI), Green Villages/Civil Society, BCFK aims to improve lives of communities in the Maasai Mara.
We implement programs specifically in the villages bordering the Mara Naboisho Conservancy. Naboisho is a Maasai word for "Coming Together" refers to the community managed wildlife conservation area adjacent to the government run Maasai Mara National Reserve. This initiative which was spearheaded by local Maasai Community under the patronage of Basecamp Foundation Kenya aims to run a wildlife conservation and tourism areas that improves the livelihoods of landowners and sorrounding communities. The conservancy includes 500 landowners and spans more than 200Km², and boasts as one of the tourism destination with one of the highest wildlife densities in the world.
Through our unwavering commitment to sustainable development and community empowerment, Basecamp Foundation Kenya (BCFK) continues to make to make significant impacts in the Maasai Mara. By fostering partnerships, promoting education and championing conservation efforts, we strive to create brighter future for the Maasai Community. Together, we are building a legacy of resilience, self-reliance and environmental stewardship that will benefit generations today and in future.
