Gladwell Muli is a class 7 pupil at Mara girls Leadership School. Basecamp Foundation during the outreach to reach out communities during the pandemic also incorporated pupils in Mara girls and their families not only to provide relief food and sanitation supplies this include sanitary towels to families as they continue to struggle during the pandemic but also to guide and counsel girls to take care and protect themselves while at home. During the pandemic there has been rise in teenage pregnancies and as an organization there was need to protect the girls through constant follow up by the teachers. During the outreach after Gladwell Muli received her food relief food and sanitation supplies she courageously asked the head teacher for advice about a boy who keeps seducing on her with a lot of persistence and trying to convince the girl to indulge in sexual intercourse.
“The boy is persistent and always visits our home when mum is not around pretending to check up on the family but later starts talking to me Gladwell said”.
The head teacher intervened and advised and urged the girl to concentrate on her studies and raise alarm when she sees the boy so that action can be taken, she also talked to the mum to intervene and not to allow the boy near the girl. The head teacher reiterated that parents truly have the most important job in the community to nurture and protect children especially the young girls while at home.
